Pups gone wild

Our 3 Pema/Bodhi pups are nealy 6 months old.  Just a week ago I bought 2 adorable pups from neighboring mushers.  I realized I needed even more to add to next years dog sled tour team.  The new ones are just 1 month younger than ours, but a tad more tender, quiet and sweet.  I realize in comparison I have built confident, fearless and happy puppies.  But they are a smidge wild...and now that there are 5 the mischief is getting noticeable.  Just this Monday holiday I thought I had the kennel arranged in happy play groups and was enjoying a craft date with my daughter and 2 of my lovely grand daughters.  Well I got a call from hubby, pups were out of the huge enclosure and were running wild.  They came right to the front door, thankfully! Happy buggers!  But only my 3 Pema pups had escaped!  The 2 new boys were looking ever so sorrowful left behind in the huge play area.  Well, since this escape the pups have been digging inside the kennel too.  They clearly understand edges and getting out!  It's hard to imagine that they must wait a year to have all this energy harnessed.  But I know once they come of age they will be excellent additions to our dog sled tour team.  Friendly, energetic, fearless and adventure loving.  Just what Barking Brook is all about.  In the meanwhile however, I scarce turn my back on them.  They climb things, reach things not meant for chewing, scatter things and seem in need of puppy school.

Celebrating our first litter

Our first litter, Anuk's litter, was so long ago!  The 4 I have from this litter are now eleven years old!  I originally kept Kubota and Triton, the only 2 boys, but Emma (Leigh) and Darka came back home later and stayed.

At the time of this litter I was still dating my now husband and it was wonderful to include his family in the fun.  My step daughter Alisha still loves Triton and calls him Fluffy But.

The photos below are from a puppy play date at the Berg's house.  They had a litter almost the same age. A few of the people who were getting puppies were there plus some house guests/friends of mine.  It was really fun!

It's strange to finally be doing a dog sled tour business after all these years with these dogs.  2 of this litter retired last year after doing one dog sled tour.  (2 carried on for the rest of the season).  Ironically doing dog sled tours is just what these guys excel at.  They are so friendly and have such eye catching beauty, they pull hard and true in harness, they really are great dogs to work with.

Of the 8 pups only 6 are still alive. Nushka was shot by a neighbor in Vermont, Charm died of liver issues. Two are treasured house pets (Perkins, Juneau).   And as I said 4 live here: Kubota, Triton, Emma-Leigh and Darka.

A lapful of pups with Emma closes to camera, Kubota's face poking out to the left and Triton face half visible on the right as he burrows in.

Emma's intense and joyful eyes.

In the dog boxes to go home: Perkins, Kubota, Darka and Emma.

Bonzo...mojo rising

The coolest little pup I have ever met! Bonzo so inhabits his name, this world, this moment. He is handsome, loving, sure. I can see him becoming a leader just like dad, grandma Rainy and so many others in his family. He will be a great asset on or dog sled adventure team.

Puppies available

We still have 2 white siberian husky puppies available from our latest litter of puppies. Please visit the puppy pages on www.barking-brook.com. Lots of great photos!
The pups are from very nice working lines, lots of leaders in the family:parents, grandparents, aunts/uncles. Also wonderful temperaments, friendly and sweet. Great house dogs or kennel dogs. Great with other dogs and children. And these puppies are getting loads of kid time!
Ready to go in about 3 weeks.

Pema pups getting fatter!

Lovely babies all piled up at momma. I am trying a new marking method, tail and 1 ear tip. Pema keeps removing the indelible ink from their tails. Thankfully it is non toxic.
Since she has been running in harness she has become a more content and doting mother. It makes a little sense, but is somewhat a tricky line to balance. We are running right from the kennel which makes it easier to minimize her time away and exposure to other dogs germs. I am planning an evening run soon though and I will have to leave her home. I do not run on my road at night for fear of cars. So I will be trucking the team for the first time to old Hill Village. Way too many dogs and germs there for a nursing mother. Hopefully with the team and excitment gone she will remain settled. I ran her in the first place because she destroyed her whelping room door while I was out with a team.

Pema's puppies are here! 7 lovely puppies.

6 boy puppies and 1 girl puppy.  The daddy is Bodhi.  All the puppies are white because both the mother and father are, that is how the white coat gene works in Siberian Huskies.
